Reefer Madness? What Gives?

The Real Reasons Behind the Push to Ban Hemp-Derived THC Intoxicating hemp-derived THC, like delta-8 and delta-10, is under fire. Lawmakers across the U.S. are pushing to ban these products, citing public safety. But is that the whole story? The truth behind these efforts involves a mix of politics, economics, and outdated fears. Here’s what you need to know about why THC is being targeted—and why it matters. Why this matters: Hemp-derived THC products, legal under the 2018 Farm Bill, offer pain relief for millions without the risks of opioids or alcohol. Banning them could harm small businesses, farmers, and patients while protecting powerful industries. 1. The Public Health Excuse: Fear Over Facts Lawmakers like Rep. Andy Harris and Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick claim hemp-derived THC poses risks, especially to kids. They point to rare cases of cannabis-induced psychosis or ER visits from unregulated products. Sounds serious, right? But here’s th...

An End To Homelessness? Or Is It An End To Freedom?

Is It Illegal to Sleep in Your Vehicle? Navigating a Complex Landscape Is It Illegal to Sleep in Your Vehicle? Navigating a Complex Landscape For many, sleeping in a vehicle is a necessity—whether due to homelessness, travel, or financial hardship. But where is it legal, and where might you face penalties? With laws varying across the U.S., here’s a compassionate look at the current state of vehicle sleeping regulations. Sleeping in a vehicle is a lifeline for some, offering a safe, private space amid rising housing costs and homelessness, which affected over 771,480 people in 2024, an 18% increase from 2023. Yet, across the United States, a growing number of cities and states are restricting this practice, often as part of efforts to address homelessness or regulate public spaces. With no federal law banning sleeping in vehicles, the legality depends on a complex web of state, county, and local ordinances. This post explores where it’s illegal t...

Reefer Reapers — Governed By Ignorance

Texas’s Hemp THC Debate: Misinformation, Contradictions, and Reefer Madness Redux In a recent Marijuana Moment article , a poll claimed Texas voters want to outlaw “synthetic THC,” sparking a heated debate about hemp-derived products. But the article reveals a mess of contradictions, misunderstandings, and old-school fearmongering that’s driving Texas’s cannabis policy in circles. From restrictive medical marijuana rules to misinformed rhetoric about “synthetic” THC, lawmakers are missing the mark—and the public’s true stance. Let’s unpack the chaos and call out the incompetence behind this reefer madness revival. The Medical Marijuana Bottleneck Texas’s medical marijuana program is so tightly regulated that it’s practically unusable for many patients. With THC levels capped at minuscule amounts, those seeking relief for conditions like chronic pain or epilepsy often turn to hemp-derived products like delta-8 or delta-9 THC. These...

Moore Tornadoes? New developments?

Tornadoes and Smart City Concerns in Moore, Oklahoma June 1, 2025 Moore’s Tornado History: A Vulnerable City Moore, Oklahoma, in Tornado Alley, has been struck by eight significant tornadoes (F3/EF3 or stronger) since 1957, including two catastrophic F5/EF5 events in 1999 and 2013. These storms caused billions in damages and dozens of deaths, making Moore a focal point for disaster resilience efforts. 1999 F5: Winds up to 321 mph, $1.1 billion in damage, 36 deaths. 2013 EF5: Winds 200–210 mph, $2 billion in damage, 24 deaths. Other events: F3+ tornadoes in 1957, 1995, 1998, 2003, 2010, and 2024. Moore’s flat terrain and location where Gulf and continental air masses collide make it prone to violent storms. With only 5% of U.S. tornadoes reaching EF3+, Moore’s frequency—one every 8–9 years—is a statistical outlier for a 22-square-mile city. ...

Texans Fighting For Continued Legal Access To THC

Protecting Legal Hemp in Texas: Benefits and Advocacy Against SB 5 Published: July 25, 2025 | Author: Shane Shipman  Why Hemp Matters in Texas Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived products—legally defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC—have transformed lives in Texas. As highlighted in a recent X post by Shane Shipman ( https://t.co/5KTUFYWx1k ), these products offer legal access to cannabinoids that relieve pain, inflammation, anxiety, and nausea . Studies (e.g., 2025 Journal of Cannabis Research) confirm minimal harm, with less than 1% serious adverse events, making hemp a safe alternative to pharmaceuticals. Yet, this access is under threat. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick pushes for a total ban, while Gov. Greg Abbott seeks to stop intoxicating THC sales. Senate Bill 5 (SB 5), introduced on July 21, 2025, could restrict or criminalize these products, ...

Zinc Ionophores: Boosting Zinc’s Antiviral Power

Zinc Ionophores: Boosting Zinc’s Antiviral Power Zinc is a vital mineral that supports your immune system and may help fight viruses by stopping them from multiplying in your cells. However, zinc needs help getting inside cells to work its magic. That’s where zinc ionophores come in—they act like taxis that shuttle zinc across cell membranes, increasing its antiviral effects. This post explores what zinc ionophores are, how they work with zinc to combat viruses, and where you can find them. Let’s dive into the basics! What Are Zinc Ionophores and How Do They Work? Zinc ionophores are compounds that bind to zinc ions and transport them into cells. Once inside, zinc can interfere with viral replication, particularly for RNA viruses like the common cold (rhinovirus), influenza, and SARS-CoV-2. By blocking key viral enzymes, such as RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp), zinc can slow or stop viruses from spreading in your body. Ionophores enhance this effect by ensuring zinc reaches t...

Shot Down — Vaccine Induced POTS

POTS and COVID-19: Are Vaccines Muddling the Infection Risk? Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) can turn standing up into a dizzying ordeal, with symptoms like a racing heart and fatigue. A 2024 systematic review in BMC Cardiovascular Disorders links POTS to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, but studies like one in Nature Cardiovascular Research claim POTS is 5.35 times more likely after a COVID-19 infection. But here’s the twist: are these studies accounting for people who got vaccinated at some point? And what about unreported mild COVID-19 cases? Let’s dig into the evidence and the gaps. What the Research Says The Nature study (2022) compared 284,592 vaccinated people to 12,460 post-infection cases, finding higher POTS odds after infection. The BMC review, covering 10 studies and 284,678 participants, confirmed a rare vaccine-POTS link, with symptoms like palpitations appearing days to weeks post-vaccination, often in people with prior COVID-19 or autoimmu...

Legal Texas Cannabis

Exploring Hemp and Hemp-Derived Products: A Guide to Cannabinoids and Their Benefits Hemp and its derivatives have gained popularity for their potential to help with pain, anxiety, sleep, and more. Cannabis is defined as hemp as long as the hemp contains low levels, less than 0.3% of Delta 9 THC by dry weight (the primary psychoactive compound) but it is rich in other cannabinoids and compounds that offer unique benefits. The loophole is that concentration of Delta 9 THC is the only regulated component. CBD can be converted into THC, and since it's hemp-derived and a natural cannabinoid, it's legal as long as the final product contains less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight — which can be achieved simply by making the edibles heavier. If the THC is kept from maturing from THCA to Delta 9 THC in the flower it's still considered hemp.  Sometimes, the raw hemp flower is infused with other cannabinoids. In this post, we’ll ...
