🚨 Breaking: Evacuation Upgrades Continue for Timber Fire South of Big Sur in Monterey County

As of the 11:30 a.m. PDT update on August 10, 2026, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office issued a new Evacuation Order for Zone MRY-F028-A. Orders remain in effect for MRY-F026 and MRY-F027. Evacuation Warnings are active for MRY-F024, MRY-F025, and MRY-F028-B.

The fire, burning in steep, rugged terrain in the Los Padres National Forest southeast of Loma Vista, has grown rapidly. Cal Fire reported it at approximately 1,300 acres and 5% contained as of the 12:25 p.m. update (up from 800 acres earlier Monday morning). It started around 10:44 a.m. on August 9. The cause remains under investigation. No structures damaged or destroyed and no civilian or firefighter injuries had been reported in available updates at that time. Access challenges in the remote, vegetated terrain have complicated suppression.
