Federal Agent Shoots U.S. Citizen 5 Times, Brags “7 Holes,” Repairs Evidence—While the Victim Faces 20 Years

Are things really this bad? Yes. And the case of Marimar Martinez in Chicago proves it.

On October 4, 2025, in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Supervisory Agent Charles Exum shot 30-year-old Montessori teacher and U.S. citizen Marimar Martinez five times, creating seven gunshot wounds. Instead of facing charges, Exum is back on duty. Martinez? She’s been indicted on federal charges that carry up to 20 years in prison.

The Shooting and the Bragging

Court records from a November 5, 2025 detention hearing reveal Exum celebrated the shooting in a Signal group chat he called a “support group” for federal agents:

“I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book, boys.”
“Read it. 5 shots, 7 holes.”
“I’m up for another round of fuck around and find out.”

Exum later testified he was “proud” of his marksmanship as a CBP firearms instructor.

The Cover-Up: Repairing the “Evidence Vehicle”

After the shooting, Exum drove his damaged unmarked Chevy Tahoe over 1,000 miles back to Maine. Before defense attorneys could inspect it, the vehicle was repaired—scuff marks buffed out, damage fixed. Exum first told the FBI he requested the repairs himself, then claimed his supervisor ordered it.

The defense calls it evidence spoliation. Prosecutors say photos are enough.

The Victim Becomes the Criminal

Martinez and 21-year-old Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz were indicted on October 10 for “assaulting a federal officer with a deadly weapon”—her car. Prosecutors claim they rammed Exum’s SUV. Martinez’s team says Exum rammed her first, and bodycam audio allegedly captures an agent yelling “Do something, bitch” before firing.

No bodycam video of the shooting has been released. Exum wasn’t wearing one.

Federal Impunity in the Age of “Operation Midway Blitz”

Exum was in Chicago under President Trump’s expanded interior enforcement push. Thousands of agents have been deployed to cities nationwide. This case exposes what happens when federal power goes unchecked: agents shoot American citizens, brag about it, destroy evidence—and the victims get prosecuted.

Trial is set for February 2026. Until then, Charles Exum remains on active duty. Marimar Martinez remains indicted.

This Isn’t Justice. This Is a Warning.

If a cop shoots you five times, brags about the “7 holes,” repairs the evidence, and you get charged with 20 years...

Yes, things really are this bad.
