Wooden pieces in your corn dog?!
Wood Chips in Your Corn Dog? Massive State Fair Recall Hits Dallas Hard
Posted: September 29, 2025 — Dallas, TX
Dallas, we need to talk. Just as the State Fair of Texas fires up for 2025, a massive recall is raining on our corn dog parade. Hillshire Brands — a Tyson Foods subsidiary — has voluntarily recalled approximately 58 million pounds of frozen State Fair corn dogs and Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage sticks packaged between March 17, 2025 and September 26, 2025. The affected items were produced at the Haltom City, Texas facility and were distributed nationwide to grocery stores, online retailers, schools, and even military bases.
What’s the deal?
Company and USDA notices say a limited number of these products were found to contain extraneous pieces of wooden stick embedded in the batter. There have been reported consumer complaints and injuries — the recall notice cites several complaints, including five reports of mouth injuries. Out of an abundance of caution, Hillshire/Tyson initiated this voluntary recall.
How to spot the bad batch
Check any State Fair or Jimmy Dean “on a stick” products in your freezer. The recalled products were packaged from March 17, 2025 – September 26, 2025 and can be identified by the establishment numbers printed on packaging:
- EST-582
- P-894
Examples of use-by/sell-by dates include (but are not limited to) 12/17/2025 and 6/9/2026 — see the full impacted-product list on the company or USDA recall pages below.
What to do if you have affected product
- Do not eat the product. Pieces of wood can cause injury to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract.
- Discard the product in a sealed bag or return it to the store for a refund if you prefer.
- If you have concerns or questions, call Hillshire/Tyson customer care at 1-888-747-7611 (Mon–Fri, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. CST) and have packaging available if possible.
Good news for Fairgoers
If you’re heading to the State Fair of Texas, good news: the Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs sold hot and fresh at Fair Park are not part of this recall. Those on-site, fried-to-order corn dogs are safe — this recall concerns specific frozen, pre-packaged products produced at the Haltom City facility.
